IN THE NEWLY OPENED STATELINE WOODS PRESERVE
Opened in May 2009, the 82 acre Stateline Woods Preserve is located off of Old Kennett Rd. and Merrybell Lane in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. The property consists of piedmont woodlands, hayfields, hedgerows, a narrow stream corridor, a wooded wetland and a wet meadow. The property is within the Red Clay Watershed and includes a small stream tributary of the Red Clay Creek. Terrain is mostly hilly to level with some steep, rocky slopes. There are 4 miles of trails for you to hike and explore the preserve.
WHO IS HIDING IN THE WOODS?
FRIDAY, MARCH 19, 2010 – 7:00-8:30PM
We’ll be exploring our Stateline Woods Preserve at night. Listen and look as we call the Screech Owl and hear the other sounds of the evening woods. Learn more about our local species of resident owls as we explore the preserve and enjoy hot chocolate. This walk is best for those 10 years old and up. Please dress for the weather and bring a flashlight.
SPRING GEMS & THUGS
SATURDAY, MAY 15, 2010 – 10:00-11:30AM
Learn about Spring GEMS such as Wild Ginger, Bellwort, Jack in the Pulpit and Spring Beauty on our walk through the Stateline Woods Preserve. We will also spot our local THUGS – the Garlic Mustard, Canada Thisle, Multiflora Rose and Japanese Barberry. Hear how to encourage the desirable plants and reduce the negative effect of the THUGS in our landscape.
